Bala G Programs

The image featured on the left shows Gary in the 2013 IFBB Pro qualifier wearing a traditional Saibai Island warriors costume. Gary was granted permission to wear the costume from the Elders on Saibai Island in the Torres Strait and had it custom made for him. The purpose of this being to spread awareness about global warming and how sacred sites and burial grounds are being washed away by rising sea levels in the Torres Strait.

Having grown up in Bamaga and Seisia aboriginal and Torres Strait islander communites on remote Cape York I had always wanted to design a program for the community that involved personal and professional development, positive role modelling/mentoring using health and exercise as the engagement tool. Being able to speak the local language and understand their culture made the idea so much more powerful and successful. With a great love of personal and professional development that I had used with great success in my own life I was able to design a work book for program participants that would teach these principles and methods in a way indigenous people would understand and share them with their families. In 2014 that dream was realised and I came to the unique understanding that indigenous health and personal development is one of my true passions in life.
